WiFi began as an internet technology which allows a user to access the internet within a local area without the need to physically connect the computer to a computer network. The signal is instead broadcast wirelessly around a local area allowing computer users to connect to the internet, as long as the computer has a built-in receiving device. WiFi is the acronym for Wireless Fidelity which is the basis of the technology.
Wifi hotspots are becoming more prevalent in public areas. These "hotsports" are where computer users can access one of these wireless broadband signals. Examples of public places where Wifi hotspots may be found are airorts, coffee shops, hotels, mass transit stations, and restaurants. This technology is particularly convenient for business users who use this technology to gain efficiencies in time by greater access to the internet through Wifi hotspots.
